| ASSERT -latest update 13th JULY 2002 | ||
ASSERT - Assert are a welcome shot of CRO-MAGS/DISCHARGE flavoured
old school hardcore reality, they have lyrics that are actually worth bothering
with, they're far less obvious that they may seem at first glance - frontman
Brit is your genuine punk rock diamond in the dust, coming in with militant
left wing socialist set of views, these days he does his talking via his
band |

| BAND BIOG | ||
| "Shout
it from the heart, the future is a cert" - Telford's Assert are almost
unique in these fashion polluted punk rock days - a REAL Hardcore
band who do actually have something to say, they're a throw back to real
days of the movement, to bands like Discharge and Conflict and mostly to
those life-changing voices of Crass - to when hardcore bands did a little
more than shout the same old empty clichés about "supporting the
scene" and "keeping it real" whilst checking they have the right designer
labels shoes and American t-shirts on..... Assert are a welcome shot
of reality, they have lyrics that are actually worth bothering with, they're
far less obvious that they may seem at first glance - frontman Brit is
your genuine punk rock diamond in the dust, coming in with militant left
wing socialist set of views, these days he does his talking via his band,
that's not always been the case, this is a man who really does know how
to "keep it real". What do Assert sound like? A hint of early Suicidal
mixed in with some Discharge, a slice of early Motorhead, some Crass, Ripcord,
a bit of Cro-Mags - there's a whole mixture of things thrown in to the
Assert sound.... it's a raw tasty aggressive gritty sound. Assert's debut
album "More Than A Witness" is out now on that fine fine label Household
Name, as was the previous Assert 7"ep "Four Fingers And A Thumb" previous
to that the band released the "Assert Yourself EP" on their own Hideous
Eye label - Right now I hear they're putting together a compilation of
Midlands UK punk/hardcore outfits and collaborating with Barny from Napalm
Death.... Assert can also be found contributing four tracks to the
Organ Radio Two compilation album..... They also have this tendency to
play their gigs butt naked, don't say you weren't warned.
we wrote the above piece in February 2000, Where are they today? Probably in the back of a festering trasit van in the middle of Europe - this band never stop - ASSERT'S SECOND ALBUM FOR HOUSEHOLD NAME - came out in 2001, it's called LEFT OPPOSITION, they've followed it with an even better third album and various self financed singles on thier own Hideous Eye label - they remain
one of the very few REAL COMMITED Questioning hardcore punk rock bands
who actually stand for something more than the pose - AND FOR THAT WE THANK
THEM. It was a pleasure to release an early taste in theformof the four
tracks on the ORGAN RADIO TWO compilation CD
