| BAND BIOG | ||
| "THE
LAST WORLD" was Coptic's fourth (and last) album and their first
for us here at ORG RECORDS. Slovenia's very own Coptic Rain were lead by
the rather forceful Katrin Radman along with guitarist (and sometimes Laibach
collaborator) Peter Penko.
Coptic Rain were a female fronted dark wave modern industrial/goth metal band who mixed flavours of Nick Cave with Lacuna Coil, Siouxsie & The Banshees with Nine Inch Nails. A lush dark warm electronic glow mixed with cutting edge guitars that tied you up while you explored the emotion of Katrin's very personal lyrics. "The Last World" followed on from the three albums and an EP they released back in the 90's with Noise Records Here’s what Henry said of the The Last World on his Coptic Rain fan "Coptic Rain
signed a deal with Org Records and have released the new album in August.
It is called The Last World and what a smash in the face it is! Heavier
than ever before Katrin and Peter give us all they have got. The opening
track, New Dawn, makes you feel right at home because it has some of the
same samples as UP, the first track of Dies Irae. This album is definitely
more metal and less industrial than the previous Coptic Rain work.
Track two features some very personal lyrics from Katrin, it's a heavy
love song about a relationship that ended. You can really hear the anger
in her voice. On the whole album Katrin's voice is less distorted than
on other albums. We can now really hear her real voice. It's a treat. The
whole album is a very personal thing for Katrin. Several of the songs deal
with love, pain and a search for herself. In Thought vs. the Dragon (a
very varied song with both acoustic guitars and Slayer-like riffing)
Katrin sings about how she got out of a relation that was strangling her.
Now free she lets it all out. This hits where it counts. On two songs we
hear Nicky, from Slovenian band GodScard, perform. In Rio he screams his
heart out in a very impressive manner. I never really liked vocals like
these, but in this song it really works. Lots of echo on it and some high
pitched screams. This song's got groove... Nicky also does a duet with
Katrin in Past Plastic. And so it goes on, more acoustic guitars, electric
guitars in many layers. Slow songs, fast tracks. This album is so diverse,
it takes some time to get into it, but then... ah great. Let's hope Coptic
Rain will continue to make albums like this one."
The Last World
was the last thing Coptic Rain did, they were really all over by the time
the album fell into our hands here at ORG. Katrin contacted us because
she loved Dream City Film Club, it wasn’t until I asked her if she was
the same Katrin Radman who was in Coptic Rain that she even mentioned that
she admited she was. They had parted company with Noise and Peter was off
working on other projects, they had an unreleased album. It seemed like
a waste to leave it there unreleased so we put it out just for the people
who already knew about the band and wanted it.
