DNA DOLL - latest update 17th APRIL 2004
DNA DOLL
“DNA Doll are a 'proper' rock band, not a wall of noise visceral thing, not a bloated shadow of some former greatness, not some indie-schmindie watered down can't play but we'll make do until something better comes along kind of band - DNA Doll are a real band with all the baggage you need to go with it...."
BAND BIOG
A band with all the energy of early Manics and the craft of Mansun - DNA DOLL arrived on the London scene in late 2000, their debut single on ORG enjoyed lots of attention from Radio One and XFM, that and lots of cool Organ shows with more established bands like Sack Trick, Cheese Cake Truck and Remote Control introduced the band in the perfect way - here's an early gig review we wrote right back at the start....

DNA DOLL LIVE REVIEW FROM ORGAN - BULL&GATE, LONDON 26th OCTOBER 2000
DNA Doll are a 'proper' rock band, not a wall of noise visceral thing, not a bloated shadow of some former greatness, not some indie-schmindie watered down can't play but we'll make do until something better comes along kind of band - DNA Doll are a real band with all the baggage you need to go with it - DNA Doll are a set of drug habits waiting to happen. Right now they're young and fresh and their soaring lead lines are for YOUR future bedroom air guitar fantasies.  Nobody else out there today has the right combination of naively and rock aesthetic to pull it off like this. If someone else dared to utter the line "I'm Warhol Crucified" it would be intensely annoying, it would be totally wrong, but DNA Doll are allowed to do this right here, right now, because..... just because. In the Bull&Gate on a grim Autumn Thursday night  these moments are perfect, will they still be when they're in some stadium in 2003? That doesn't matter today, that's for another time, another place and all we're interested in is what's happening here right now this instant. DNA Doll have the audacity of Early Manics, the musical confidence of Mansun, the preposterous cheek to take from Bowie and add the bite of Guns 'n Roses and more than ever in these Badly Drawn days we need rock stars who are larger than life, we need Marilyn Manson, we do not need Coldplay. Right now DNA are needed, they're a breath of over the top larger than life fresh air, celebrate them now, they might just be the band the Manics once threatened to be before they got boring.

Here we are in June 2001 - the band are launched and now they're doing things via their own label Marshmallow, taking a little too long to follow that debut single up but hang in there, they've got more than enough great songs, let's hope they don't mess the great start up... we await

14th JULY 2002, WE STILL AWAIT - the line up changed, we keep hearing talk of a second single and an album, they've been playing shows in the USA... There's something going on

9th OCTOBER 2002 - like a swan, it looks likes nothing much is going on as it glides gracefully along but underneath the water line where you can't see, the DNA DOLL is swimming away, legs and flippers and all kinds of things worknig overtime.... the second phase of DNA DOLL is almost here, and judging by the gig we witnessed the other day, it's even better than ever.... news of the new single any second now (so their management say)

DNA doll are now Alrick Guyler - Drums, Backing Vocals and Sampledelics... Marc Eden - Voice, Guitar... Kitty Brooks - Bass.

"Discovered in London, Marc Eden, the irresponsibly passionate born superstar, was put in touch with Alrick Guyler, a shy vegetarian drummer found practicing in an ex-meat refrigerator. Months later, the immaculate conception of DNA Doll it it's embryonic format was born...  September 2001 saw the addition of Kitty Brooke joining the line-up on bass, after several ex-band members self-destructed into oblivion. The line-up was complete, the sound with its fusion of full on rock mixed with intricate beats and a translucent shimmer of electroinica"

18th APRIL 2004 - Last we heard they had gone to New York and were doing things with Slash and Marc was now fronting some new band Slash had called Velvet Revolver... guess that was that....

PRESS QUOTES AND SUCH
"A great big swaggering fox that shreds your glittery strides and steals Mansun's chickens" a short review that gives us a hint" 4/5 single review - Steve Lamacq, Melody Maker,  13th December 2000

"Their sound has the hard hitting pop sensibilities, melodies and catchy chorus' that will turn heads everywhere." Rock Sound

"DNA Doll are to the music world what the Tate Modern is to art; they embody the traditional elements of their
creative forum, whilst embracing the more daring, dangerous and alluring rudiments to make it into something
entirely unique. With songs that inspire passion and excitement, looks which can kill and a feeling of ice-coolness which cannot be shaken, you're left at the end of their all to short set wanting more, and feeling that you've truly witnessed the start of something huge and unstoppable." Silver City Music

'Happy Valley' screams for your attention in all its rock and roll outrageousness. Think David Bowie and Richie
'Manic' Edwards battling it out for the most glamorous super-ego, whilst Robert Plant gets into a ferocious guitar
fight with Sid Vicious via T-Rex. Picture painted Japanese Geisha doing the can-can in diamond encrusted thigh
high leather boots, and sit back safe in the knowledge that the future of rock and roll never looked so refreshingly vehement. For The Love Of It

"DNA Doll are the only band on the bill who look like proper rock stars... and put out the sort of stylish, polished
indie guitar music that we Brits should be proud of. Quintessentially eccentric in a way that this isle can muster,,," BBC On-Line
