GENE SERENE - latest update 22nd Dec 2007
ELECTRO SOUNDCLASH DaDa GODDESS from London
(or is it Berlin or Amsterdam this week?)

GENE SERENE CAN DO ANYTHING (or so she says)

BIOG
GENE SERENE sent in a CDr of her then new and unreleased album in early 2006 (or was it 2005?). We wrote a positive review, played tracks on our radio show on Resonance FM and generally did what we do when someone sends something good in to us.

We’d been aware of Ms Serene for some time, 7”ers, encounters at gigs and clubs such (she spent a lot of 2004/05 threatening to send her previous single to us – how difficult could it be to put a single in the post?). Somewhere along the line we got talking about a single on ORG with her associate/manager/collaborator/Mclaren figure (lo-fi visual pop artist Brian Jones) – well he asked us to put the album out and we said no but we quite like the idea of a single and we had done things with him before and well why not...

She’d been doing all kinds of things with all kinds of people – DJ Downfall, Funkcutter, the Punx Soundcheck people, matt catt, gob$auSage, playmokillls - oh she has a colourful ever evolving creative background/outlook, a part of the ever evolving London electro/punk/art scene that can sometimes stimulate and sometimes provoke – it seemed like a single would be a positive creative thing to do, it seemed like heads were in the same area. The single came out in late 2006 to a storm of chaos and obstacles and contradiction and head-pecking and artwork arguements - out of it all came a load of headache for us and I guess we should have learnt see the signs. I guess you could say it was healthy punk rock chaos or something like that, we weren't allowed in to her gigs, then we'd got a call demanding to know why we didn't show up... God Save The Queen, we mean maaaan... damn fine five track CD single though, releasing wreckords is always stimulating, I love it - she's a minefield of contradictions and raging blogs that come at us at different angles and I guess we wouldn't want it any other way, some days we love her...

So anyway the 5 track ORG single came out - including her  version of Sound Of The Crowd - and picked up healthy bits of airplay on Radio 1 and XFM (and other places toooooo) despite all obstacles and the head-pecking people asked for more. The album never did come out, Ms Serene has her own label now – DaDa Discs – and I guess she’s moved on from that album already, she’s released a lot of new stuff in 2007, both her own material and other people’s and, well we haven't heard any of it, I'm sure her label is well worth checking out, she released a Gobsausage single, so it must be good!

PRESS QUOTES AND SUCH
The review we wrote (of the so far unreleased album) before we talked of releasing a single, the review is from early 2006...

ORGAN ALBUM OF THE WEEK

GENE SERENE – Genesis – Ah so good, breathlessly horny hi-energy cutting edge left-field new wave/disco electro pop – she’s a bitch, she’s a switch, just flick it…. By the time you find you’ re losing your mind she’s winning. Fashion and vanity is a very serious business, do you know how hard it is to sound this good? I like….. I like……. Can’t you see? Not that she gives a shit….. And I like all the things she does, it is always best to know your place and agree, I like I like….. Total frothing electro synth and drumbox treats - dance beats, bleeps - throbbing base lines and Specimen and Megahype and New Toy and Minty and Visage (and Soho Dolls). She sounds like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth (or under her heels) She’s a 78 Stimulator – Twelve tracks and some extra remixes, some interaction with DJ Downfall, outrageous Clash of Should I Stay Or Should I go as well as Human League’s Sound Of The Crowd (didn’t think the original could be bettered!) Attention needed she’s the real queen bee – it’s more Berlin than London, no it’s Being Boiled and Madam Jo Jo’s and New York, London, Paris, Munich, everyone’s talking about pop muzik – she can do anything, she can do anything, she needs nothing from you - proper punk rock, no permission needed, turn it on switch it off, nemesis nemesis, a live goddess and queen (that’s what she said). The album isn’t out yet, I don’t know when this is out or who’s releasing it (watch this space). Classic electro pop
