DO YOU HAVE A MOMENT TO HELP OUT GEORGE TABB? |
What
are we going to do this week Brain? Same as we do every week Pinky,
take over the world - It’s really what things are called that enables people
to see those things in the correct way, and it’s always reassuring to hear
those bells late on a Sunday night when we get back from Denmark Street
and 104.4 land, this week from Stow-on-the-wold, ringing Gloucestershire
triples and just before Sailing Away and the shipping forecast - Fisher,
German Bite, rage on, but then that’s a whole other can of worms and we
already have too many half open cans this week. And how good has the Pestival
been (thank you Bridget) – the hissing cockroach that was too happy to
hiss has been my favourite bit so far. What have you got for us this week?
More of the constant fight to bring you the new and avoid the average.
Some things are far more important than music though – George Tabb, big
part of the NY punk scene and long running contributor to the underground
zine world needs your help, read a little bit about it a little further
down this page.... |

THINGS TO GET EXCITED ABOUT |
WHAT
IF THEY WERE TO LET US RUN MTV? HA! NO, DON’T BE RIDICULOUS,
THAT COULD NEVER HAPPEN!!!
ORGAN TV will be back for
more starting Mid summer 2006. ORGAN TV returns for a year long series
that will be available via SKY all over the UK (and a good portion of Europe).
Watch this space for more details, times, channel numbers, dates. How?
What? Where? ORGAN TV enjoyed a short run and caused a big stir on Sky
back in 2003 – we just went out and did what people said couldn’t be done,
we stuck our necks out (again) and proved it can be done and that Music
TV can actually be exciting. And now we’ve been invited back for
more. Now you know our musical policy, you know what we do and what we
like and what we’re about – you know what to expect on ORGAN TV, you know
you can expect the unexpected (this may be on Sky but hey, totally on our
terms). It can be done and it’s happening right now - MTV style music TV
from us. Music TV with attitude. Cutting edge music, exciting videos,
alternatives. Want to get your material on? We want to see what you’ve
got – it has to be broadcast quality, it can be DIY, you CAN make exciting
videos on a very very small budget. Get your DVDs (video tapes if you must)
in to us and we promise to have a look. We want exciting videos, we want
video that hold us right through, we want different videos. We don’t want
the same old crap they show on the other channels, we don’t want all those
safe predictable videos they already show everywhere else, the ones that
have you hitting the remote half way through – time to shake things up
a little more.
Video makers, film
makers, animators, anybody doing anything interesting – we want eye candy,
we want your creativity, we want your one minute documentaries, your 20
second bursts (or five minute bursts) of animation we want all kinds of
bites running between the band videos – send in your creativity or point
us to places like My Space or You Tube. The only rules we have
are our rules (and a few of those broadcast rules, oh and the no HARD-Fi
rule but hey you knew that...). We make no promises to anyone other than
to check out everything and chase you if we want to use what you have...
What are we lining up? HELLA, DEERHOOF, LITTLE TROPHY, COLT, LIARS, 65DAYSOFSTATIC,
BATTLES, CARDIACS, MASTODON, HIGH ON FIRE, SIDEARM, YIP-YIP, NEXT
LIFE, PRISCILLAS, GENE SERENE, AMON TOBIN, JAGA JAZZIST, MC LARS, HUMAN
TOYS, SPIT LIKE THIS, NONE MORE BLACK and who knows what.... video links
can be sent to organzine @ aol . com
So you THINK YOU KNOW
ABOUT FOOTBALL? OK bring it on... The ORGANART.COM world cup fantasy
football league can be joined at http://fpli.premierleague.com
Here's the code you need to join the league 59080-12456 - Although
ORGANTINA clearly have it all in the bag already... and remember Bud isn't

SO
GEORGE TABB - Long time contributor to Maximum Rock N' Roll zine and all
round punk rock DIY underground do'er of things
PLEASE REPOST,
PLEASE RESEARCH THIS,
PLEASE START TALKING ABOUT
THIS!
“I began Whirlwind Coalition
a few weeks ago because there's so much to be done getting the message
out about the 9-11 syndrome. A really good friend of mine, George Tabb,
NYC writer and musician is very sick because of the cover-ups of The Environmental
Protection Agency and The U.S. Government. The health of MANY people are
at stake here in New York and those in positions of authority are refusing
to take responsibility in providing financial assistance to any of them.
George is just one of many who are getting sicker and sicker. Everybody
was upset over 9-11! Shouldn't we also be ragingly upset about the
unsung aftermath? This should be front page news! The mainstream media
in the U.S. is not interested, or is too scared or too controlled to touch
this. Connecting through the internet and getting information out there
about this issue feels like the last resort at the moment. I'm not the
only one on the web talking about this. Researched information from highly
credible people is becoming more and more available as time goes on in
this underground called cyberspace. The more people who talk about this
above ground, and, who want to roll up their sleeves and do something about
it the sooner we can fix things. I myself am here because I want to save
my own friend's health from being swept under the rug. I can't even think
of anything else right now. If a close friend of yours were in the same
situation I'm sure you too would feel like moving heaven and earth for
them. That's exactly what I'm doing”

No we’ve been reading about
George Tabb quite a lot in the last few weeks as the punk rock family swings
in behind him (the bit above is cut and past from a mail that came our
way via Skinned Alive from Oakland). George is an old school NY punk (and
a bit of a legend) from the glory days of the Ramones and the late 70’s
CBGBs scene, and regualar contributor to Maximum Rock n'Roll zine toooo.
I was vaguely aware of him so curiously had me click on the Help George
Tabb links to find out more and find out what was up. Seems George lived
very close to the twin towers, indeed he lost everything besides his life
in the attacks – the remains of his possessions are now in a New Jersey
landfill – now it seems like he’s losing his life. Along with lots of NY
cops, fire fighters, health workers and the people like George who lived
in the immediate area, George (age 44) is dying from all the poisonous
asbestos filled dust clouds he was breathing in for weeks (months, couple
or more years now) afterwards – and America doesn’t look after it’s under
classes too well, no real health cover for those who can’t pay. Seems those
in control in the USA would rather this all be quietly swept away, they’d
rather not admit people are suffering and the money isn’t available to
pay for the health care of ordinary people like George. Now this isn’t
about the politics, this isn’t about who was right and wrong and did America
bring this on and is the war is wrong and all those other arguments – no,
this is simply about someone from the punk rock family/street/whatever
needing some help from the rest of us. Talk about it, go check it out,
go to the website, then play benefit gigs, don’t drink that pint tonight,
send the money to George instead, seems he could use the money (and some
of your energy) a little more than you right now – go find out and maybe
help a face from the underground punk family out... Hang in there George.

Like
we already said - we shall no longer be reviewing a million albums,
we're just going to tell you about the very very best once a week, no more
time for the average, only the most exciting - only five albums, five is
enough... five five five... OK, we're very very selective, when we tell
you it's goood then it really is goooooooood
ALBUM
OF THE WEEK
THE
DEATH SET – To (Rabbitfoot) – They’re originally from Australia, this (so
it seems) is their U.S debut, seven track mini album of scuzzy DIY fuzzy
spiky lo-fi new wave analogue drum-box driven pop that comes over like
a few more welcoming Bis. High speed boingo-boingo pop art tantrums and
lots of attitude (and bratty girl/boy voices) that they know they’re easily
good enough to get away with. Aggressively sweet, like sucking delicious
boiled sweets and expecting the bits of glass – for fans of Lightning Bolt,
Deerhoof and the Dub Narcotic Sound System. www.deathset.com
ALSO
CHECK OUT
ME
(AGAINST THE WORLD) – I.D.S.T (Casket) - Heavy-edged infectious punky/grungy
pop metal/rock that mixes up quite a few ingredients to come up with something
just a little bit different. Kind of Three Colours Red flavour/energy.
www.meagainsttheworld.com
FOREST
GIANTS – Welcome To The Mid West (Cherryade) – Fuzzy 80’s sounding alternative
indie pop postcards (from Bristol). www.forestgiants.co.uk.
THIS
IS YOUR CAPTAIN SPEAKING – Storyboard (Resonant) – Warm delicate graceful
soothing minimal post-rock instrumentals that have all the time in the
world and a little more besides to slowly build up or unwind or progress
or just stretch out and tingle. Slow building simple minimal guitar led
pieces – inventive gentle percussion, drums, typewriter keys, metallophone,
mandolin. Like a relaxed economical Explosions in The Sky with extra crafter
bliss in the restraint of it all. The musical equivalent to jut sitting
enjoying the delight of almost next to nothing – sitting on the edge of
a pond without needing that fishing rod for an excuse. They’re a three
piece from Australia who seen to draw the Tortoise comparison rather a
lot – Tortoise are rather boring though, this is a delight – a sunny day
in a library kind of delight. Widescreen and epic and just right, www.thisisyiurcaptainspeaking.info
/ www.resonantlabel.com
PSEUDO
EXISTORS – Stamp Out Normality (Overground) – One of those beautifully
messy minor punk rock legends who grabbed their fifteen minutes of fame
and then just as quickly disappeared. Oh there’s been a million of them
– Pin Ups, Gog Magog, No One, Alternative Attack, Xerox Girls, Period Pains,
Ring (we could go on and on and on and on and on and on...). The Pseudo
Existors formed in Lincoln in 1978 (and fell apart in 79) and these days
their releases sell for silly money on Ebay. Belligerently raw who gives
an f proper messy punk rock that’s shouty 77 punk meets proto heavy metal.
A whole load of single tracks, live bits, things from compilations - nineteen
tracks that really won’t mean much unless you already know about them –
www.overgroundrecords.co.uk
KEPLER
– Attic Salt (Resonant) – Breezy Canadian slocore alt/post-rock songs from
a Wilco flavoured band good enough to have been invited to guest on a GodspeedYBE
UK tour a couple of years back. They recently lost multi instrumentalist
Jeremy Gara to “band of the moment” Arcade Fire, not before this rather
fine rather downbeat album was completed though. Just joyously good
and sunny and very very mellow and emotive and just really nice in the
most positive of ways. www.resonancelabel.com
MADDER
MORTEM – Desiderata (Peaceville) - Fourth album and more of that completely
over the top gothic (proper gothic – pointed towers, magpies in ornate
collars and not just black eyeliner goth rock) drama and big riffing metallic
pomp rock. Nothing is subtle, and as progressive metal goes this blows
away pretty much everyone. Powerful vocals, operatic, pompous, dramatic
and so over the top that we fell over the other side somewhere around track
three and M For Malice. Evanescence with ten times more imagination and
drama...
INVADE
– Invade – Self released album of nailed down hardcore delivered with the
right attitude, straight out of Long island New York, Classic hardcore
subjects – life and the politics there of. A brutal relentless NY hardcore
metal sound (nothing too metal, just a serious barrage of very heavy riffs
pushing those bruising vocals). One for you Knuckledust, Decimate, Hatebreed
(I nearly typed Hatebread then – what a great name for a hardcore band
that would be, they could get a whole thing about eating your vitriol between
two slices going, get jon The Baker in). Just when you think you have Invade’s
sound worked out they throw out a rather fine curveball with the interlude
that leads into their finest moment and the very colourful Pawn To Bishop,
Then To King. Fine fine hardcore, fine fine attitude "there is no copyright
on this, reproduce it at will. We are here to spread music and ideas, not
make money" - www.myspace.com/invade
DECIMATE
– 11 Rounds (Copro) – UK Hardcore with a brutal metal edge, first full
album (on the heels of that mini album on Blackfish and various other bits
and pieces). The highly respected crew have more than paid their dues and
earned their scene stripes. Eleven solid hardcore metal slices that do
just what you need them to do – no messing, no frills, they’ve been delivering
since their early demo days (that seem like so long ago now), they’ve delivered
again - recommended, what more do you need from us? www.decimateuk.com

SINGLES |
SINGLE
OF THE WEEK
DOLIUM
– Dead Teenagers (Parlour 9) - Still raw, still edgy (still waiting for
them to hit us like they did back there the first time around), they’ve
still got the attitude, they’re still raw and screeeeeeechy, they not as
edgy and dangerous as they were back then - hell, they’re still better
than 97.63% of bands you’ll ever hear, they still sound like the Pixies
balanced on a razor edge and the mysterious Mistress is still there sounding
like she’s pulling strings and ah look, here’s the link, they’re still
the best kept secret in the land – www.dolium.net
