AUGUST 2007: VILE VILE CREATURES
have just e’d us to say “We have a last minute gig tonight
at the Fiddlers Elbow in Camden (that's London). It's some dodgy night
where we have to pay £5 to use the drum kit - but it's better than
nowt (seems the original gig they were doing at the Camden Wherever was
double booked by some couldn’t careless barfly or other). We are first
on at around 8pm” say the very fine band. The Fiddlers Elbow is actually
in no-man’s land somewhere between Kentish Town and Camden, right by Kentish
Town West railway station at 1 Malden Road, London, NW5. See you
later people, we’re not banned from that one yet. Check out Vile Vile Creatures
here
then go racing through the city lights to the gig
Meanwhile
LAST DAYS OF LORCA, secret stars of the Her/Bones
single are playing Club 333 in London’s rage inducing Hoxton next Wednesday
29th. A Bugbear night so it seems. We Organs are banned from the 333, but
hey you can go, just past the Nail Gunner Arms, past the idiot scenester
with the silly hair. Check out Last Days here

Aug 2007: More things to say, “like early Art Brut wrestling with a pub
outing of psychiatrists" said Lamacq of HERZOGA,
which they say they take as a compliment, certainly sounds like one to
me, early Art Brut was really rather good don’t you think. Good to hear
LOUIS
LINGG AND THE BOMBS getting more radio play
as well, you ORG-AN-ISED SINGLES SERIES subscribers
can expect your Louis Lingg singles in the post next week. We’ll tell you
about the September and October releases very soon, we’re biting out tongues
and itching to tell you, the majestic swan is frantically kicking (and
recording) under the surface. TO THE BONES
are up to lots more recording right now, and we’re expecting OURLIVES
tour dates both in the UK and Iceland, any moment now...
...we’re
expecting a lot of new things to happen any moment now.

Aug 2007: Wrong Pop? Right pop – HERZOGA head
to Bath today for a show at Moles, then they haul ass up to London
(or down if they go back home after Bath for a bath or something) for a
show on Saturday night at the Bull & Gate – on stage 8.00pm. Good to
see they’ve been getting some much deserved Radio
One attention from both Steve Lamacq and Huw
Stephens this week as well, good to see the best things do eventually boil
up to the surface. Right then let me get on with boiling up more bombs
and
things that go off an things, filth abound in every corner yes, demos left
on the floor... things are coming, things are coming, more boiling to the
surface.

Aug 2007: SUBBA-CULTCHA SINGLE OF THE MONTH
HERZOGA/TO
THE BONES - THINGS TO SAY/TYCHO - More genius from our single-licious
buddies at Org, 17 amazing tracks all for two pounds - I’d say it’s worth
buying even for a curious listen at such a price but that’d be doing it
a great disservice. Featuring stunning new bands, styles and some genuine
moments of sheer brilliance (including ace subba stars Vessels). Hell,
I even cancelled my month’s payment to the Simon Cowell supported animal
welfare appeal to buy it (I didn’t really, but still, you wish they let
the starved dogs out at the end of screening and let tear him shred from
shred). - subba-cultcha
Ah
you see, those Subba people know what they’re talking about – want a copy
of the single, 17 track 14 bands, two pounds – mailorder here |

July 2007: HERZOGA
will bring their Wrong Pop to London on Saturday August 18th for a gig
at the Bull & Gate
in deepest Kentish Town – good, a decent venue run by a good team of music
fans with decent beer/prices and no Camden attitude, what a difference
a mile makes. Herzoga will also be at Bath
Moles club on August 16th
Emma
SMEAR
just got home from Liverpool and would like to say - “Hi all! Well, a big
thanks to Tom at Slacker Sounds for putting the gig on and to everyone
who was so nice to us! Home crowds scare me but you where so much
fun, thank you so much! Oh & the ASBO'S rule! We got back to
Nottingham the next day in 2 hours, look out for us on Worlds Craziest
Police Videos. Also can I just say, it's not all about being a 'girl band'
it's about making music, what ever it is. Some of you girls bands, you
make our job very very easy and very very hard all at the same time.. Anyway!
take care. See y'all soon” E x

July 2007: "Louis Lingg and the Bombs
are goddamn punk-rock-garage-pop-anarcho saviours of the 2 and half minute
pop song. They come from Paris where they regularly blow up little bars
with explosions of snot and beer fuelled punk rock energy!" (musicnoyz) |
26th
July 2007: The LOUIS LINGG AND THE BOMBS
single is starting to cause a fuss, those first advance copies that went
out or radio yesterday have already caused phones to ring. Release date
is August 27th – track listing is - 1: PRINCESS MONONOKE, 2: CONSPIRACY,
3: AM STRAM GRAM, 4: 1: PRINCESS MONONOKE (clean radio edit). LOUIS LINGG
AND THE BOMBS are from France, Paris to be exact. They deal in explosive
anarchic bang bang boom boom punk rock, throwing pop bombs and fizz while
they fly their black flags. The single will be their debut UK release.
Louis
Lingg And The Bombs formed in the summer of 2006. The band are named after
Louis Lingg, the renowned Chicago anarchist who committed suicide on death
row in 1887 – go read your history books, fascinating story. Some
of their songs are ultra-political anarchist punk rock anthems and some
of their songs are like children's nursery rhymes. ALL of their songs are
full of pop hooks and melodies that are sung with energy and commitment
to the cause of REVOLUTION!
Seems
Anna Schulte, she of SCHULTE/ERIKSSON
is also now in THE SLITS,
just got a mail to say they’re having fun in the US on tour and playing
with Sonic Youth this weekend.
VILE
VILE CREATURES, the spiky Manchester band who feature as one of the
bonus bands on the HER/BONES single are playing the Buffalo Bar in London
on Aug 21st and The Enterprise in Camden on the 23rd, before that they
play a home town gig at the Klondyke Club in Levensholme, Manchester on
the 28th and then head to Berlin in Germany for a Ladyfest show on August
4th (good to hear Steve Lamacq has picked up on them as well now on his
Radio One show).
VESSELS
who also feature on that HER/BONES single are in London for a free afternoon
show at the Nottinghill Arts Centre on Saturday 28th (starts at 4.00pm),
in fact Vessels are at the end a rather major tour right now – Cardiff
on Friday, London Saturday, Brighton Sunday, Manchester Monday – check
their MySpace for full

July 2007: Things to say! It would appear that TO
THE BONES are a “well oiled Hard rock n roll
machine, one of the rawest bands in the country, renowned for their
chaotic and destructive live shows, this is band to be watched closely”
so said the NME, meanwhile...
“There's
normally always a nugget by someone I've never heard of before with ORG
stuff, this time in was To The Bones” said Ian Camfield (XFM)
25th
July 2007: THE SMEARS
are playing another Slacker Zine night in Liverpool on the 27th July @
Django's Riff. The Smears are joined by Black Bettie (feat. Lula Blue of
Dirblonde - sensual, experimental garage rock drawing on influences from
The Slits to PJ Harvey), Asbos (Liverpool's favourite kitchen-sink surrealists,
rummaging in greasy waters to fish up warped psychic oddities, often disguised
as hummable guitar pop tunes like 'weird dream' and 'transistor radio')
and Cannon King - Solo acoustic rock'n'blues from the Mersey Delta, who
according to Slacker are like Elvis Presley and Jack White in one body!
Entry is free, more details from www.myspace.com/slackersounds

things you learn from reading blogs. Catch Ms Serene at GliTz @ Madame
JoJos in deepest Soho on 26th July and then over in West London at the

the Clash’s beloved West Way right over the road from Ladbrook Grove tube

July 2007: TO THE BONES
can be caught live in the North West of England at Wigan Tavern on 2nd
August, at the Leverhulme festival in Bolton on 4th August (on the
mainstage, time not known right now), then they hit the road to share stages
with DEATH OF LONDON
(who in turn are some ex Team people and have a track featured as one of
the bonus treats on the HER/BONES single – that’s tight, we’re getting
lazy in the ORG office now, we’re down to the short hand of Herbones, things
to say you see).
Death
Of London and To The Bones play The Varsity, Bolton on August 9th, The
Criterion, Leicester 10th August, The Sunshine Lounge, Birmingham 11th
August. TO THE BONES
are already hard at work on the follow up release, expect it at the end
of August on Bolton’s oWn Repeater
Records (home of other fine Bolton bands like those scuzzy punks The
Kiss Offs, and Bookstore – they play loud and fast you know!) Something
is a brewing up there in Bolton.
HERZOGA
play a couple of gigs at the end of July – you can catch their unique bland
of infectiously spiky wrong pop at Luton’s George 2nd on July 27th
and in Brighton (with Yuchi) on July 31st at The Greenhouse Effect. Meanwhile
the Stoke on Trent band continue to promote their Wrong Pop nights at the
Glebe in Stoke On Trent – August 11th will feature SABOTAGE
LEFT, FURNITURE SESSION and
ALREADY THE GHOSTS, the September show will
feature CHARLOTTEFIELD...

July 2007: And talking of history and legendary ORG-AN-ISED SINGLES, THE
BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE have some UK tour dates - Named in tribute
to the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist and his influence in introducing
Eastern culture into the world of Western rock and roll, The Brian Jonestown
Massacre have made some of the most exciting underground music in America
since the sixties. Formed in 1990 in the Haight-Ashbury district of San
Francisco, The Brian Jonestown Massacre is very much an amalgamation of
that city’s past and present musical forces. Some 40 different members
have passed through the group's ranks since it’s inception (oh the stories
we could tell here at Organ), but the heart of the BJM is the ragged determinism
of Anton Newcombe - producer, songwriter, guitarist, singer and the group's
primary creative force. Having now reached cult status due to their part
in the classic ‘Dig’ film, the band who first emerged in the UK back in
the last century via us here at ORG, during those documented Dandy Warhol
“wars” and that now legendary 20 track single (as well as tracks of those
Organ Radio compilations), are about to return to the UK for the following
dates:
08/07
- T in the Park, 09/07 - Newcastle Upon Tyne Academy 2, 11/07 – Birmingham
Academy 2, 12/07 - Liverpool Academy 2, 13/07 - Northampton Soundhaus,
14/07 - London Islington Academy, 15/07 - Cardiff Club Ifor Bach, 16/07

impassioned vocals, and the unlikeliest hooks. Dirty ol' rockin' out doesn't

May 2007: Two new bands on ORG, let us introduce HERZOGA
and TO THE BONES.
The two English bands will share time and space in the form of a split
single. The June release and part 33 of the ORG-AN-ISED
SINGLES SERIES. Herzoga are from Stoke, self
confessed makers of “wrong pop”, TO THE BONES are an urgent alternative
guitar band from Bolton. Both bands have had Demo Of The Week reviews on
the Organ pages in recent weeks. The single will be out on June 25th, two
tracks from each band and a whole loads of bonus extras and watch this
space. Here’s those reviews...
DEMO
OF THE WEEK (ORGAN 207)
TO
THE BONES – Anytime you’re ready? To the bone machine, we’re on a roll
now, I love it when we get on a demo roll and there’s more falling up stairways
and going off and things. Scuzzy filthy alternative indie rock to make
it all better and just when they’re easing you in with their Pixies bass
line rumble they go and explode in a ball of urgent energy and collisions
and noise that blasts you to the other side. To The Bones are from Bolton,
we got three tracks here and hey, they got us hooked and on the case straight
away. All kinds of garage fuzz and pounding urgent explosive passion and
just when you think you’ve got them pinned they throw out a brilliant curveball
with the second track Tycho (dare I say Tim Smith guitar? Nah? Alright
we’ll ban all future mentions of the boss and his band in reviews). Tycho
is and an excellent slice of slightly quirky indie punk god-knows-what-pop
that’s kind of contradicts itself and that so deliciously English anthemic
buzz-rock and throaty vocals with a clever American alt.style undercurrent
– ah look, I had enough of trying to write about bands with mere words,
let’s get on the bleedin’ dog and bone and put this out as a single – it
may be as raw and scuzzy as hell but hey, they got something buzzing here
and you’re gonna want a slice – right, let me go get a plan together –
you can go explore www.tothebones.co.uk
or www.myspace.com/tothebones
while we see if they want to put this out as a single...
DEMO
OF THE WEEK (ORGAN 205)
HERZOGA
– Things To Say/Bumper To Bumper – There’s something here that’s so positively
difficult to put a finger on, something different, something almost proper
new wave in a 1982 sense, really really not that obvious and easy to pin
down though – infectious, slightly hard boiled and almost like a fluid.
Sober, together, un-cantankerous Fall, there’s something very familiar
yet they sound really satisfyingly different. Like listening to something
brilliant on John Peel’s show back in the day. Herzoga call it “wrong pop”
but even that is quite right, they’re from Stoke by the way (we like to
throw in a fact or two) – “Wire fighting with Pavement” someone said (might
even have been us), kind of fitting in with bands like Cove, Charlottefield
– couple of plays and the infectious song things will lodge themselves
in to your brain. Yeap, second impressive demo from Herzoga – www.myspace.com/herzogaband
P.S
- And very good to see Herzoga are up and active and putting on their own
D.I.Y “Wrong Pop” nights in Stoke – www.myspace.com/wrongpoppresent
