OCT 2007: IMPERIAL LEISURE
– chaos at the latest guerrilla gig this afternoon!
Well
not being content to just turn up and soundcheck for tonight’s headline
at the Borderline – the band spent the afternoon playing another couple
of their now legendary flash mob guerrilla gigs. Gathering up their following
the hip-hop/ska ten piece took on Charring Cross Road and blocked the traffic.
Only problem, guitarist AJ had phoned in sick this morning so he could
be involved in all this. Seems boss man got caught up in the traffic, got
out to see what was happening and fired AJ in between songs!
IMPERIAL
LEISURE take their blend of London hip-hop and old school soul fused ska
to the Borderline in Soho tonight (Friday October 26th). Their debut single
will be out on ORG Records in November.
Go
explore the videos of their guerilla gigs at www.imperial-leisure.co.uk

OCT 2007: IMPERIAL LEISURE
are back at the Borderline in Soho (London) this Friday night (26th Oct)
for a headline show - the show is presented by RawRip.com. Imperial Leisure
showsare fast become legendary...
Word
had been reaching us here at Organ throughout the summer of 2007 - You’ve
got to see this band!
Word
gets around when there’s something genuine and exciting happening – when
there’s something really real out there, then real people let you really
know. It isn’t about hype or clever marketing, not down here in the
real world - down here in the undergrowth if there’s a good band then people
you can trust start to talk. It really is that simple - word of mouth
All
summer we’d been hearing about this gang called Imperial Leisure - about
their blend of hip-hop and their gigs in strange places. First thing we
actually caught was a shaky mobile phone video on YouTube. A video of them
fighting the tide and playing on a beach - seems they like to play guerilla
gigs. The ten of them just like to turn up and play – streets, building
sites, outside festivals, shopping centres, Camden on a Sunday afternoon
– they just like to play.
Turns
out they had loads of these videos doing the rounds and causing a viral
stir – bootleg quality footage of these impromptu gigs they’d been doing,
passers by just stopping and having to join in. Seems their activities
got the invited to come inside and ‘officially’ play at a number of significant
festivals this summer - their Reading Festival car park set went down particularly
well, people declaring them band of the whole weekend!
Their
My Space/You Tube videos attracted enough attention for them to be made
My Space band of the week recently – all this without an official release
to their name. Pretty much every show they’ve played on their home turf
this Autumn has been sold out. First gig we caught was at the Barfly in
Camden, loads of people locked outside and the whole place jumping – nights
like that just don’t happen at the Barfly – they especially don’t happen
to an unsigned band with no official release and no press or radio coverage!
We were in there before they were off the stage, got to release this one!
Imperial
Leisure are an energy ball, they’re a ten-piece energy ball playing their
own particular blend of cutting hip-hop fussed with cool old school London
ska and beats and bites and riffs and... They come complete with a live
brass section, keyboards, DJ, two MCs and a cool as F singer. Seems they’ve
been together since their North London secondary school days, and in some
cases, the bonds go way back to primary school. Their sound is a nailed-down
combination of hip-hop beats, tunes, street-wise lyrics, punk attitude
and just the right amount of infectious soul. There’s a sense of unity
and familiarity that I guess comes from their years of friendship and hanging
out together. Based in their own rehearsal/recording studio in Tottenham,
they work together and party together, they claim to put equal amounts
of energy into both – I don’t know, their work seems like one long party
to me!
The
debut Single ‘In A Letter’ will be out on November 26th 2007 here on ORG
Records as part 36 of the ORG-AN-ISED SINGLES SERIES – and I for one am
massively pleased about that! Night like that one at the Barfly are why
we do this thing we do, releasing bands like this is addictive – yep, one
long party! You’ve got to see this band!

OCT 2007: IMPERIAL LEISURE's
single is starting to hit those airwaves now, and there's the cover over
there, part 36 of the singles series, there a band biog
up now and keep these eyes and ears tuned for more guerilla gigs - All
summer we’d been hearing about this gang called Imperial Leisure - about
their blend of hip-hop and their gigs in strange places.
TO
THE BONES – IN THE CITY PREVIEW: “Start your
weekend out with a bang as To The Bones take their brand of dirty all-out
rock and roll to the stage at the Ruby Lounge. Fuzzy guitars, huuuuge
drums, spine-vibrating bass and throat-burning vocals mean that To The
Bones can probably lay claim to the title of hardest rocking band in Bolton.
Less a gig, more a full-on assault, To The Bones' live performances have
been described as "chaotic and knotted in attitude and nothing that obvious"
and "a three guitar wall of fractured noise that comes over like an intense
Pixies/Stooges/Fugazi set of dive bombs." Pretty unmissable, then. They're
a rag-tag bunch, all hair and sweat and black clothes, with T-Bone pounding
away like Animal in the Muppets and Rhys looking like he'd rather be fighting
than singing - think Iggy Pop back in the good old days when rock stars
gave no thought to life and limb, tours weren't run by management companies,
and "risk assessments" were a challenge, not an obstacle. Filthy, filthy
rock and roll - just the way we like it”. (Kat Dibbets – Bolton
News)

THE BONES play Manchester’s In The City on Saturday, October 20. Ruby Lounge,

SEPT 2007: Well there you go, thank you Mr Riley, that made the pond froth!
how brilliant did that sound coming out of the radio! I know it sounds
stupid and you know we've been playing that new Cardiacs
single far too much since we got it here, but it really is magical to hear
something you've poured your heart and soul in to when it comes out of
the radio for the first time (and we're only the record label!).If you
missed it yesterday you can still hear Marc Riley's show on line - BBC
Six Music - fine Subway Sect session as well, an the new British Sea

SEPT 2007: CARDIACS
- NEW SINGLE and UK TOUR – Cardiacs new single hits the streets and the
shops on November 5th. The single is part 35 of the ever evolved ORG-AN-ISED
SINGLES SERIES. The lead track is a beautiful thing called Ditzy
Scene quintessentially Cardiacs only a little different. The limited edition
CD will feature three new tracks, alongside Ditzy Scene you’ll find Gen
and Made All Up. The release will be a CD only, and as will all singles
series releases, strictly limited to 1000. That’s right, the wait
for new Cardiacs music is over. A substantial body of new material, first
since the Guns album, is taking shape. This single will bare the first
fruits of the much anticipated recent activity. Cardiacs are one of the
most obsessed over bands in the world, they have a cult following like
no other. This will be a much sort after release, our advise is mailorder
it from here. Scroll down for the UK tour
dates.

SEPT 2007: SUBBA-CULTCHA.COM SINGLE OF THE MONTH
“LOUIS
LINGG AND THE BOMBS – PRINCESS MONONOKO -
Like a head on collision between The Cardiacs, Deerhoof, and Banzai - kooky,

from the legendary Org-An-Ised singles series…”
“Pretty
cool little review! I'm well chuffed!” said a Bomb.
Over
here in the ORG office I must say can’t hear any Cardiacs in there, I guess
we all hear things in our own way. Deerhoof go speed-punk maybe? And yes,
lots of Banzai. Now we can hear a lot of Cardiacs in our next single -
more of that in a while. OURLIVES were
rather fine last night, good to see so many of you there, how do people
know the words to unreleased material? They've certainly jumped up a step

SEPT 2007:We just happened to notice that GENE
SERENE was playing tomorrow night, some kind
of preview of her next single on her own Dada Discs label I think, don’t
ask me, no one tell me anything – yes. tomorrow night Gene Serene is performing
at Built For Speed at the King Kong Club, Brunnenstrasse, Berlin – “be
there” she said. Tomorrow night is the 6th September. Well I don’t live
