Organ on the Radio

The Organ hour - broadcasting at Resonance104.4FM every Sunday,9pm-10pm

THE OTHER ROCK SHOW and THE ORGAN THING @ RESONANCE 104.4fm presented by Marina one week and Sean the next.  RESONANCE FM BROADCASTS ALL OVER LONDON ON 104.4FM OR WORLDWIDE VIA THE WEB

The OTHER ROCK SHOW is presented by Marina O - The Other Rock Show is about exploring 'other' time signatures within structures of rock and filtering out the conventions of the 4/4 time easy option in favour of something a little more challenging.

Meanwhile on the ORGAN THING Sean O will be bringing you an eclectic mix of diverse left-field things from all points in between and beyond - the best new releases and demos that are circulating around the underground fanzine channels and landing here in the Organ office, along with news of forthcoming events and general alternative music news and goings on in and around London.  Expect an hour of challenging alternative music each week, the kind you don’t often get on ‘normal’ music radio shows and stations, expect special guests, expect who knows what...

DETAILS, LINKS, NEWS
Welcome back my friends, to the show that doesn't play ELP, although technically speaking it should.

Please excuse the two (oh, the shame) slight on-air mistakes: the show opened with about 22 seconds of Gay Beast, instead of Deerhoof, which I would have left running if they hadn't had masses of play by Sean Organ recently, and a couple of loooong tracks coming. Gotta fit in that prog!
So:

1: ZACH HILL- House of Hits (Sargent House)  Zach hill, (US drummer/composer extraordinaire, one half of Hella) has a newish album out; called Face Tat, it's out on Sergent House and includes several of his talented friends including Devendra Banhart, No Age (Dean Spunt and Randy Randall), Guillermo Scott Herren (Prefuse 73), Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Carson McWhirter (Hella), Nick Reinhart (Tera Melos, Bygones) . Stop Press! Oh no - Zach's bust his foot, possibly even the magic Foot that makes his single bass drum sound like a double kit and has other drummers murmuring in awe - so some gigs have been cancelled.  The silver lining to this is that he might have some time off from the 20 or so bands he works with to do more band composing and art - both of which are as important as his kitwork.   http://www.sargenthouse.com   http://zachhillmusic.com    .

2:  DEERHOOF - The Merry Barracks (ATP) ..another deserved play for this track from the new DEERHOOF  albumDeerhoof vs Evil, out on Monday 24th - all the info plus vids, streams etc can be found  at deerhoofvsevil.com

3: LED BIB - Is That A Woodblock? (Cuneiform) ...a new album coming from LED BIB, they're a UK based band grown out of the jazz scene but leaning into avant realms (and becoming strangely popular here! Strangely as in, the UK commercial jazz scene is barely jazz, let alone avant). http://www.cuneiformrecords.com and here's our feature with more details of tour dates etc: organthing037

4: PAPAYE - Megaplus (Africantape) PAPAYE is a 3-piece outfit full of vitamins and tender flesh (it says here) They're from France, they're great, the album this is from is called La Chaleur, its out on Africantape on Feb 7th 2011 (and on Kythibong as a vinyl LP) http://www.africantape.com  http://www.myspace.com/friendlypapaye  ...

5: CHILD ABUSE - Opportunity Zone (Lovepump United)  aargh, that headcleansing noise is CHILD ABUSE, they're a trio from New York  - don't google for them, go to http://www.soundsofchildabuse.com and you can see them on Monday 24th January at the Victoria in Dalston supporting Divorce - gig is opened by...

6: DEAD DAYS BEYOND HELP - Nightbus Tourette's (Copepod) London-based duo, Jem Doulton on drums and Alex Ward on guitar; this is from their 2009 album Access Denied! Released on Copepod Records http://www.copepod.co uk  http://www.myspace.com/deaddaysbeyondhelp

7: WIZARDS OF TWIDDLY- Big, Bigger, Bigot (Fracture For Pleasure)  The Liverpool-based stalwarts get better and better; they have a great new album out, People With Purpose - recorded over the last couple of years, it sounds great, catches some of their live energy. You can get it from: www.burningshed.com/store/wizardsoftwiddly/ http://www.myspace.com/wizardsoftwiddly

8:
ZACH HILL Green Bricks - Which comes with the brilliantest, or stupidest video ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi27gx-a3lg

9: TORMENTA  -  L'Arche Interne (Africantape) TORMENTA are a French trio making complex instrumental mathy rock, including member (s?) of Cheval De Frise - this is from their first, seven-track album called 'La Ligne Apre' - Its out on Africantape on 7th February 2011 www.myspace.com/tormenta666

10:  KAYO DOT - Stained Glass (excerpt) (Hydrahead) recently released a one-track EP called Stained Glass - it's out on Hydra Head. Stained Glass has signifigant guitar contributions from Trey Spruance - the guitarist/keyboadist of Mr Bungle - it's a long, evolving, detailed track... more from http://www.kayodot.net  Read more about the brand new release from Tartar Lamb - the quieter, more abstract relative of Kayo Dot - here:

11: UNIVERS ZERO - Jack The Ripper (excerpt) (Cuneiform) was suitably segued into the Kayo Dot excerpt (so much good music, so little time) - Univers Zero began in 1977, this is a re-release of another of their very early albums, the legendary 'Heresie'. There's loads of info and some track  downloads, including the track I played (Jack The Ripper), here: http://www.cuneiformrecords.com/bandshtml/univers.html

Same time same place on Resonance 104.4FM next Sunday when Sean O presents an all-purpose Organ Thing, full of the best of new underground/alternative/diy music, events and art to have flown to the Organ Bunker or strayed across our paths...  ta for listening, Marina O
