SEAN
ORGAN RADIO SHOW – RESONANCE 104.4FM, LONDON – 18th June 2006
Who
got played this week? And how do you find out more?
1:
intro theme track – TRANSISTOR SIX – Back Yard Rocket Ship
2:
GYORGY LIGETI / BAVARIAN RADIO ORCHESTRA – (excerpt from) Jupiter
And Beyond (EMI) - From the soundtrack to 2001:Space Odyssey in memory
of the fine avant composer who passed away this week. Only way we could
start tonight’s show really. Excellent live play before we came on, Hamlet
– was that the bloke from Green Wing sword fighting with car aerials just
then?
3:
HAWNAY TROOF – Flowers (Retard Disco/Southern) – one of the albums
of the year so far, double CD actually, cutting edge Hip Hop from Oakland
California – every track on 34 track album is a gem. You’ve got people
like Deerhoof, Erase Errata, Peaches and more – I de believe he’s on tour
in Canada right now. www.hawnaytroof.com
4:
TANGAROA – Dance (Anticulture) Third track from the Leeds band forthcoming
five track Day EP - Extreme jittering flickering metal that may be
bad for your heart - find more out from www.tangaroa.org.uk
or www.anticulture.co.uk
5:
DRESDEN DOLLS – Sex Changes (Roadrunner) – A nice little song about
organ removal snip snip snip from the duo’s excellent new album Yes Virginia.
6:
MANYFINGERS – Some Shield (Acurela) - Now this is taken from a delicately
beautiful (forthcoming) double album called Our Worn Shadow), one disc
a CD, one a compelling DVD from multi-instrumentalist Chris Cole (from
Soeza and Movietone). Part of that highly creative (and rather shadowy)
Bristol scene. Once again you can hear more and find links via www.myspace.com/manyfingers
or www.manyfingers.net
7:
INDICA RITUAL – Neat Animal (BuzzBuzz?Bang) - Buzz Buzz Bang
seem to be some kind of collective, club, underground label general DIY
do’ers up there in Liverpool – this is from a CDr compilation that’s full
of, in their words “hellish square waves” - fine things from Indica Ritual,
Cup, Steal Gandhi, Financial Times, Rhubarb, Kulant and Binary Toad (did
Poisoned Electrick Head put something in the water up there? Is this the
result?). Once again Mr Murdock will put you in touch via www.myspace.com/buzzbuzzbang
8:
TANGAROA - When The Door Swings Shut, Draw That Gun (Anticulture)
First track from the Leeds band forthcoming five track Day EP - Extreme
jittering flickering metal that may be bad for your heart - find more out
from www.tangaroa.org.uk or www.anticulture.co.uk
9:
STEEL GANDHI – Ladders Fall On The Deserving (BuzzBuzz?Bang) -
Hey, I know we just said this, we’re busy here, come on. Buzz Buzz Bang
seem to be some kind of collective, club, underground label general DIY
do’ers up there in Liverpool – this is from a CDr compilation that’s full
of, in their words “hellish square waves” - fine things from Indica Ritual,
Cup, Steal Gandhi, Financial Times, Rhubarb, Kulant and Binary Toad (did
Poisoned Electrick Head put something in the water up there? Is this the
result?). Once again Mr Murdock will put you in touch via www.myspace.com/buzzbuzzbang
10:
DUNGEN – Christopher (Kemado) another track from the excellent Invaders
compilation – last week it was the Fucking Champs (or as we like to call
them on the radio, the Flipping Champs), this week Dungen and High On Fire
– lots of previously unreleased goodies on this album. This is a compilation
from the people involved in the Beast club in New York – they play the
heaviest slices of old school flavoured metal, psych and prog laced hard
rock. You’ll find goodies from Saviours, The Sword, Comets On Fire, Pelican,
Witchcraft, Warhammer 48k and more.... and where would we all be without
the My Space link? www.myspace.com/invadercomp
11:
DIRT – Shine Without The Bling (demo) – Ah, my favourite hip-hop
maker right now, he/they call it grime, - it’s all low slung and easy on
the ear, but those lyrics have bite, there is intelligent hip hop to be
found out there if you search for it and dig your way past all the dumb
stuff. Dirt is from P.G, Florida – www.myspace.com/dirtiestinthesouth
12:
VESSELS – Take It Outside (demo) Another track from the excellent
debut five track demo from the Leeds band recently seen sharing stages
with Appleseed Cast. All five tracks on this demo are equally as good.
Actually this is the demo of the week on the Organ website @ organart.com.
Intelligent emotional post-rock – www.myspace.com/vesselsband
13:
ASDA FAN – I Have No Eyes (BuzzBuzz?Bang) - Hey, I know we
just said this, we’re busy here, come on. Buzz Buzz Bang seem to be some
kind of collective, club, underground label general DIY do’ers up there
in Liverpool – this is from a CDr compilation that’s full of, in their
words “hellish square waves” - fine things from Indica Ritual, Cup, Steal
Gandhi, Financial Times, Rhubarb, Kulant and Binary Toad (did Poisoned
Electrick Head put something in the water up there? Is this the result?).
Once again Mr Murdock will put you in touch via www.myspace.com/buzzbuzzbang
14:
PLAID & BOB JAROC – The Launching Of Big Face (Warp) – A track
from the forthcoming album/DVD double set collaboration between Plaid and
video artist Bob Jaroc (hey, we need a TV show, oh, hang on, we’ve got
one, starts July 12, 10.30pm, SKY 173 – ORGAN TV, a bit like Organ radio
only with pictures). More from www.warprecords.com
15:
PFAFF – There Are No Mountains in The Netherlands (That Dam) A fine
track (well we wouldn’t be playing it if it wasn’t a fine track would we?).
A fine track from the new fourth album that came out last week. The hardest
working man in lo-fi so says the Dutchman’s press release – guess what
else in on the press releases, yeap, a link to his my Space page – www.myspace.com/pfaffmusic
or www.thatdam.nl
16:
SEX PISTOLS – Substitute (Virgin) – Ah well we couldn’t let that
Who Live At Leeds revisit this week go unmarked now could we (this is a
rock show after all). You don’t need permission for anything.
17:
HIGH ON FIRE – Devilution (Kemado) another track from the excellent
Invaders compilation, see the Dungen notes for more info. Old school progressive
metal with a stoner edge from Oakland California.
18:
CAY – Princes And Princesses (ORG) - The original raw recording
from back there in 1998 and still the best thing they ever did, recorded
live in a garage on a cassette recorder and a blasting one and a half minute
slab of attitude, if only they’d kept on doing it rather than allowing
a clueless major label and equally clueless management rip them apart and
destroy it all. Long since deleted but hey, I found on in the Organ mess
here and I couldn’t resist a bit of self indulgence
19:
ICON A.D – Clockwork Orange (Overground) – A fine track from the
new 23 slice retrospective compilation of the 80’s Anarcho band’s fine
output. This track was originally recorded for a John Peel session. The
album is called Lest We Forget and it’s out round about now – www.overgroundrecords.com
20:
AOTEA – You Can Call Me Hyena (Sound Devistation) - A track
from their very bouncy jazzy bendy pronky experimental post-rock album
– Apocalypse In Transmetropolita. They’re from Wisbech (Cambridgeshire)
and the whole album is excellent so expect to hear more. Lot of gigs
comeing up around the UK in August. They claim to have no mellody, no hooks,
no sing alongs – what are they on about, you can sing to this - Hear some
yourself via www.myspace.com/aotea
or explore www.sounddevisation.co.uk
(a fine label from Nottingham that’s evolving out of an e.zine)
21:
DOMINQUE – Ping (demo) – The mysterious Dominque Leone, favourite
on the Other Rock Show with his lush orchestral Beach Boys, Sparks, Cardiacs
flavoured experiments – He’s from Dekalb Illinois (USA), he has an album
almost ready to go and these latest recordings can be downloaded from www.myspace.com/dominqueleone
22:
exit theme track – TRANSISTOR SIX – Back Yard Rocket Ship
