THE STINGING NETIL FAQ for artists and performers - how, what where etc...

FAQ for artists at the Stinging Netil

What do I get when I book a stall?

You get a standard market stall that will be set up in Netil Market car park. The usual market crew will set up the stall frame and table top Stafor you with the basic protective awning on top.  There are two types of stall set up - table and walk-in.  You will be provided with clamps to attach awnings etc to the frame.

How big is the stall?

Exact measurement to follow in the next day or so... in the meantime, please have a look at the photos of the Saturday market. Covered table top style stalls are about 6ft wide and 4ft deep.

What extra equipment to I need to bring?

You will need to bring means of hanging or displaying your artwork. We have seen this done in many ways - chains, wire,  garden or other netting, boards etc fixed across the back and sides of the stall to support your paintings - it's up to you to make your stall look great!  It is recommended to bring some kind of cloth cover for the table or sides. You may also like to bring extra awning or tarpaulin, and something to sit on.

The basic stall measurements are: 120cm deep, 240cm long, 114cm high (from the table) and 80cm from ground to table.

A few tips from personal art market stall experience: We recommend using medium weight green plastic coated garden wire for fixing things to the frame - it's easy to handle and clings to the frame more than string or bare wire.  On previous stalls we have managed to hang canvases directly from this wire and used it as support for paintings and backdrop cloth.

If you are bringing heaver items and want to hang them from the back of the stall, one idea is to bring a piece of wood that can be fixed across.

When can I set up my stall?

Set up time is from 8:00am to 10:30am.  Stall allocation is first come, first served, so it is essential that you set up in good time. Stalls MUST be set up before 10:30am - the gates will be opened to the public at 11am.. All stalls must be booked and paid for in advance.

Who wil set up my artwork and look after my stall?

Once the stall frame, top awning and table top is set up, the stall is all yours -  you are responsible for hanging/setting out your art and setting up your stall fixtures and fittings.  You must also mind your stall or employ/bribe/enslave a responsible person to do so.   The organisers will have no time to look after individual stalls during the market!

Who is responsible for my artwork and belongings?

You are completely responsible for the security of all your own artwork, merchandise, takings, personal items and equipment at all times. The site is accessible to the general public all day.  The Stinging Netil organisers cannot therefore take any responsibility for your belongings.

Is there any storage on site?

No - At this moment in time there is no storage, but we will be discussing the possibility of very short-term (day before/after) storage with Netil House.

What happens if it rains?

The stalls will be set up with awnings so that your work will be protected from light rain and showers.  Current Met Office forecast, is for a great start to Sunday, with sunshine, light winds and pleasant temperatures, not too hot. They are forecasting a chance of one or two light showers in the late afternoon.

How much commission will the Stinging Netil be taking from my sales?

None! You will NOT have to pay any commission - just pay for your stall! The cost of each stall is £40. This is a flat rate -  it remains £40 whether it is for one artist or a group sharing.
